This technology, like a high-tech parking assistant, ensures precise alignment between the car and charging pad for Matrix Charging, a system already used in the world's largest automated e-taxi charging project.

UWB, a wireless technology for accurate positioning, is integrated into both the car's charging connector and the ground pad. During charging, the system guides the driver to the optimal position with real-time distance measurements. Confirmation on a car display initiates the charging process.

This collaboration leverages both companies' strengths: NXP's established secure communication technologies and Easelink's agility in implementing new ideas.

"With NXP as a partner, we have access to their expertise in secure communication," says Gregor Eckhard of Easelink. "Their UWB technology is now being used for fully automated charging with Matrix Charging®."

This UWB system is already being tested in Vienna and Graz as part of the eTaxi Austria project, the world's largest for automated e-taxi charging. Here, 60 e-taxis equipped with Matrix Charging access 60 charging pads across these cities. The project, which began in autumn 2023, runs until March 2025.
